I think it's superficial to say that chronic illness are mosly caused by unhealthy lifestyle choices. It makes people who have chronic conditions derived genetically or from autoimmune disorders(or in any other way apart from bad lifestyle choices) feel like they did something to deserve getting a life sentence with a chronic illness.
Students(or nursing students per say) are not without their own health problems. It's not the first time lecturers have said something insensitive(what with prednisolone being a miracle drug?), and for some reason, what they said touched a raw nerve. They might not have meant it(like most other laypeople who don't have to deal with such crap everyday), but still...
*sigh* Maybe i'm just over-sensitive...
