Gate-Control Theory

We learnt about gate-control theory today in health psychology. Apparently we can 'control' our pain through the cognitive aspect. Easier said than done- that's all i can say after our annoyiing lecturer finished the lecture.

'As a nurse, you have to encourage your patients to think more postively..." Something along the same line. Yadayadayada...

Right... How about she tries having chronic pain, and then i tell her that "you can't stay in bed all day... you have to try to become more cheerful!" 0.0 Ok yes maybe according to health psychologists, it will work. But i'm a skeptic. I don't think it works. Try telling that to me and i'll box you seriously. Already i'm still trying to continue dancing, i'm still teaching, and i haven't taken an MC for a loooooooooooooooong time, and i come to school on time(today was the 1st in this sem that i ponned tutorial without a legitimate reason). But heck it doesn't help. I don't know how people keep a positive outlook when they have to deal with such crap because it seems like some mean feat to me... Oh well!

It's true that you never know how it feels unless you've gone through it before, as with everything else in nursing.
