I'm blogging from UCC... The first ballet class ended. What an eye-opener! Quite a few Asian candidates. The rest are mainly Australians and New Zealanders. I've spotted a few obvious finalists, because they are SO SO SO GOOD! The last exercise was 16 fouettes en pointe- killer! Only a handful did them nicely. :) Our local candidate, Min Yi, is amazing! I'm rooting for her to get into the finals! Woot! The next class will be the rest of the girls and the boys. There's a guy from Goh Ballet Academy. I think he'll be good!
Update:
Hmm... The 2nd ballet class for the semi-finals was much better. More of them were good!!! Saw a very peculiar style of doing fouettes- a girl's hands were flexed everytime she opened her arms!!! *gasp* The guys were quite good! There was one from Goh Ballet Academy and another from Royal Ballet school! Good! But the girl from Goh academy wasn't that good. You know the common ballet body stereotype? After watching today, i realised it IS important because if you don't have the ballet body, you'd look weird on stage, no matter how good your technique is. There were a few 'short-necks'. One was very good, but she just looked weird without a long neck. There were quite a few with a less-than-ideal figure and legs which was a pity because some were good too! Sad to say, i think the judges might eliminate those with less-than-ideal body. :( Tomorrow, variations!
